Lim Xin Ying
Glitter Glue, Paper and Corrugated Paper
2010
This artwork depicts a rain droplet with a rainbow inside it. The rainbow is created with glitter glue on a piece of paper and the piece of paper is glued to the corrugated paper.
The surface of the rain droplet is rough. The rainbow is made up of the seven colours that a normal rainbow will have and the colours appear to be merged together. The rainbow contains many complementary colours like red and green, orange and blue are in the rainbow, attracting the viewer’s attention to the rainbow. The rainbow also stands out from the rain droplet as the rainbow is made up of colours of a basic colour wheel. The colours are glittering as it is created using glitter glue. The rainbow’s texture is also rough as it is made up of bits of glitter.
As we all know, rainbows appear after a rain stops and it does not always appear. The rain droplet is rough as this represents that the path taken by an individual is not smooth. The rain droplet also depicts that on some days, it will be rainy and gloomy for the individual, but the rainbow represents the fact that after the rain stops, happiness will come. The rainbow is also created using glitter glue as it will be shiny and the it represents that the individual will shine when the hardships are overcome. So the motto of the story is not to give up in yourself and strive hard in the rain to overcome the obstacles as the rainbow may appear anytime.
